In Videoconferencing Alternatives: How Low-Bandwidth Teaching Will Save Us All, Daniel Stanford from the Center for Teaching and Learning at DePaul University, reminds us of the trade-offs inherent in high bandwidth tools like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. The chart below, which arrays tools into four quadrants based on the cross between immediacy, or the sense of presence and interaction associated with presence, and bandwidth, is a good reminder that not everything has to happen via video call.
